“2014 is in less than 6 months just let that sink in…” – Farrah Gray
Just “yesterday” we celebrated the start of 2013.
Six months ago we were so excited over coming into this fine and not so fine year (depending on how it has been for you). Starting the New Year was the opportunity of a new beginning for many. We ate rice with fried chicken and drank some fine wine on the 1st through the 3rd of January.
How time flies – six months has sped off already into eternity…It was just yesterday!
In the first three days of 2013 – January, I set out seven goals for the year. I no go tell you wetin dem be sha…Yesterday I looked to examine how far I have come yet on my goals.
Number 1, checked. 2, checked. 3, checked. 4, checked. Four goals scored in the first half – in the game of football that would have been legendary. But this is the game of life. So now I have three goals left to score in this second half of 2013.
Beside working on my remaining 3 goals, what else am I gonna be doing for the rest of the year? So what am I gonna do? I will study more furiously and work even smarter.
I will read more, yeah; talk more, Tweet-Facebook-blog more and better. I will give more to my favorite programs in church, eat better, sleep better, learn to dance better, learn to swim, make more friends and interact more and better – online and offline. I will pray more to make more power available “dynamic” in its working to cause spiritual and physical changes.
Beginning from this ‘Month of July’ I will read at least two new books a month (however, I will allow myself the luxury of some laziness in some months, so two books will become one in such months. By the way, did you know that laziness is good sometimes? Well, am not even gonna talk about it here).
Books top on my list are Chimamanda Adichie’s “Americanah”, Nikhil Goya’s “One Size Does Not Fit All”, Zack O’Malley Greenburg’s “Empire State Of Mind”, “The Art of Being Unreasonable: Lessons in Unconventional Thinking” by Eli Broad and my own first book “Who took My Job?” – my book comes out in September, hopefully.
As we are about to round off the first week of the first month of the second half of 2013, I am reminded of my mother’s favorite saying “After the race you count the miles (miles covered).” She says that whenever she wants to point out that you ought to think about whatever you are going to do to be sure that you are doing the right thing because at the end of every action there would be consequences and you would have to give account.
Can you give a good account of the first half of 2013? Have you scored well? Did you set goals for this year? How far have you come? Don’t answer…just think about it.
For the next 5/6 months you may make a definite and achievable plan for the remaining months of the year. And put the actions behind them, for real. Dream bigger. Aim higher. Read more. Exercise. Those things you have postponed these past months, that you really wanna achieve? Begin work on them now.
It’s seven minutes into the new month of July.
Make I sleep jor…eh…Gudnite!
NB: This piece was written few minutes to midnight 30th June and seven minutes into 1st July 2013.
